摘要
The spine is a frequent site of deformity in osteogenesis imperfecta (OI). Poor bone stock, hypotonia, and repeated compression fractures contribute to the development of deformity. The more severe types of OI are more likely to develop spinal deformity. Scoliosis in OI is commonly associated with a kyphotic component. When a deformity appears to be progressive, early intervention is indicated. Some patients with OI may be candidates for bracing, but some form of operative treatment is ultimately needed for curve control. Standard fusion and instrumentation techniques or nonfusion procedures may be used. Careful handling of the patients and their spines is important to avoid complications. © 2012 Scoliosis Research Society
