摘要
Purpose of ReviewPsoriasis is a widespread inflammatory skin disease affecting approximately 2% of the world population and characterized by scaly reddish plaques on different body parts. The pathophysiology of psoriasis projected a role of immune cells and cytokines, which initiate a chronic inflammatory response. Understanding the role of inflammatory cytokines can contribute to better control, comprehensive management of psoriasis, and success of pharmacological treatment.Recent FindingsRecently, advancement in the targeted molecular therapies is utilized in management of psoriasis and its comorbidities, like psoriatic arthritis. CDK4/6 or EZH2 inhibitor repurposing has also emerged as a new therapeutic alternative for the treatment of psoriasis. The beneficial effects of targeting IL-15 signaling have been implicated in the pathology of various autoimmune diseases including psoriasis. Nowadays, Th17 cytokine family is considered as a major effector in the pathogenesis of psoriasis.SummaryTo manage the psoriasis, it is utmost necessary to understand the mechanisms by which the cytokines contribute to pathophysiology of psoriasis and its translational benefits to the medical practice. We discussed the role of salivary cytokines, cytokine profiles, and correlation between psoriasis and cytokine levels and salivary gland dysfunction in psoriasis.
