The modernization of steel production facilities at the Asha Metallurgical Plant is discussed. The modernization was performed in stages during the period 2003–2010 and included the following: construction of a complex for treating steel outside the furnace (2005); introduction of a dual-strand continuous caster (2007) that was designed to cast 170–240 × 900–1550 mm slabs and currently has the best indices in Russia for usable output (0.982); installation of a Consteel DSP-120 furnace with conveyor-charging (2010). In 2011, average heat time was 60 min, electric-power consumption was 416 kWh/ton, and electrode consumption was 1.6 kg/ton.
