摘要
The need for weight reduction in aerospace and automotive industries requires use of lightweight materials. In order to attain the aforementioned, joining of dissimilar materials such as steel and aluminum came into practice. Friction stir spot welding is a solid-state welding technique capable of joining the materials with wide variation in their properties. This paper discusses the friction stir spot welding process and its variants along with effect of heat generation and material flow on the macrostructure, and mechanical behaviour of FSSW aluminum alloys. Finally, the major issues in friction spot stir welding will be discussed followed by the summary of outcomes and the scope for future work. © 2021, The Institution of Engineers (India).
