摘要
Due to the outstanding properties, aluminium alloys are widely used in different structural industries. Primary constraint for the adoption of aluminium is its low surface hardness and tribological properties. In this experimental work, SiC particles were reinforced in Al6061-T6 alloy by using friction stir processing route and analysed the effect of varying volume fraction of reinforcement on the microstructure, surface hardness and tribological properties of aluminium metal matrix composites (AMMCs). For the microstructural evaluation, scanning electron microscope, electron backscatter diffraction and energy-dispersive spectroscopy technique were used. It is observed that maximum wear resistance and microhardness of fabricated AMMCs were obtained as at 12% volume fraction of reinforcement particles. Maximum microhardness 150.71 HV and lowest coefficient of friction 0.22 were observed at 12% volume fraction of reinforcement. © The Institution of Engineers (India) 2023.
