Summary: BACKGROUND: A case report about a diabetic patient with vitreous hemorrhage due to peripheric retinal tear, which was missed on the first visit. MATERIAL AND METHODS: A diabetic patient with a history of 1 month visual loss was undergone pars plana vitrectomy. During the surgery retinal detachment, peripherial retinal tears, subretinal hemorrhage and anterior proliferative retinopathy was detected. CONCLUSION: The possibility that the vitreous hemorrhage, in diabetic patients, may come from a peripheral retinal tear, unrelated to retinopathy, should be always kept in mind. © 2011 Springer-Verlag.
