With the goal of low-pressure bladder storage and efficient bladder emptying, neurogenic bladder management is complex and requires a varied approach to treatment. Neuromodulation, such as dorsal genital nerve (DGN) stimulation, has been demonstrated to be an effective treatment modality for neurogenic bladder patients, improving bladder capacity and compliance, reducing incontinence episodes, increasing catheterization volumes and time intervals between catheterizations, and improving bladder overactivity, especially in those patients who have failed conservative management. Although limited in its current clinical application, dorsal genital nerve stimulation may prove to be a viable method of neuromodulation for the neurogenic bladder (NGB) patient as the technique and application of this treatment option continues to advance. © 2014, Springer Science+Business Media New York.
