摘要
High-velocity impact response of fiber metal laminates (FMLs) is investigated using finite element method. The strain-based three-dimensional Hashin failure criterion was used, and the effect of strain rate on composite modulus and failure strain was accounted for. A user-defined material subroutine in Abaqus/Explicit was used to define the composite material model. The surface-based cohesive behavior was applied to describe the delamination. The numerical results show a reasonable agreement with published experimental results. This numerical model was utilized to investigate the impact response of AZ31B magnesium-based carbon fiber metal laminate. According to the results, the perforation process can be subdivided into three phases and the damage area of different damage modes of composite layers was also studied. Besides, the impact behavior of magnesium-based FML with hybrid composite (glass–carbon/epoxy) was studied and compared with glass/epoxy and carbon/epoxy. The results show that the damage area and impact resistance of the hybrid composite are between that of glass/epoxy and that of carbon/epoxy.
