摘要
France was one of the earliest countries to grow sugar beet, and in 2016, it produced 382,858 ha in 10 of its northern regions to supply sugar and ethanol/alcohol. France is a top producer of sugar beet with average of over 88 tonnes of root yield ha−1 and 13.7 tonnes sugar ha−1. This paper describes the different husbandry practices involved in France producing its EU sugar quota and discussed some implications of the end of the sugar quota system in October 2017 and the need for continuous research by the Institut Technique de la Betterave to ensure that beet production continues to be efficient, profitable, and sustainable.
