A new carotane sesquiterpenoid, 5-epi-fulvoferruginin (1), and its isomer fulvoferruginin (2), were isolated from the fermentation broth of the wild macrofungus Gymnopus sp. 0612-9. The structures and absolute configurations of compounds 1 and 2 were elucidated by comprehensive spectroscopic analysis and CD exciton chirality method. TLC-bioautography showed that compounds 1 and 2 exhibited moderate activity against pathogens Penicillium italicum and P. digitatum, which are responsible for the decay of postharvest citrus. The 5-epi-fulvoferruginin at C-5 with 5S configuration was weaker than fulvoferruginin at C-5 with 5R configuration.
