摘要
Fiber pulse lasers offer high power, high efficiency, a long life-time and narrow pulse duration at pico or nano levels. Hence, fiber lasers are widely used for high precision manufacturing applications such as cutting, welding and cleaning. This study focuses on the use of pulsed laser for cleaning mechanical parts. To clean the surface of the parts, the oxide or contaminated layer must be removed while the shape and dimension tolerances are unchanged. The thickness of the removed layer and resulting surface roughness depends on the power, pulse width, repetition rate and scanning velocity of the beam. In this paper, the effect of the source parameters and operation mode of the scanning head on the roughness of some mechanical parts was investigated. A fiber laser of 1064 nm at 50 W average power was used to clean the surface of A36 steel and A2024 aluminium. The surface roughness of the parts under test was measured using a contact roughness measuring equipment. The experimental results showed that the roughness of the tested surfaces can be improved by selecting suitable parameters of the laser-based cleaning system. © 2021, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature.
