Non-AIDS-defining cancers are a rising health concern among HIV-infected patients. Cancer screening isnow an important component of health maintenance in HIVclinical practice. The decision to screen an HIV-infectedpatient for cancer should include an assessment of individualizedrisk for the particular cancer, life expectancy, and theharms and benefits associated with the screening test and itspotential outcome. HIV-infected patients are at enhanced riskof several cancers compared to the general population; analcancer, hepatocellular carcinoma, Hodgkin's lymphoma, andlung cancer all have good evidence demonstrating anenhanced risk in HIV-infected persons. A number of cancerscreening interventions have shown benefit for specificcancers in the general population, but data on the application © Springer Science+Business Media, LLC 2011.
