There has been little written concerning the importance and implementation of a psychological assessment in the evaluation of erectile dysfunction. In fact, recent thinking concerning the primary role of organic factors in the etiology of erectile dysfunction has further minimized the role of psychological and emotional issues. This paper explores the importance of psychological factors in the causation of the sexual dysfunction as well as the impact of the dysfunction on the individual and his relationship. It is hypothesized that a comprehensive assessment and treatment approach must include both organic and psychological factors to insure a positive outcome.
