Laparoscopy has been used extensively in gynecologic surgeries and has been invaluable in procedures such as total and supracervical hysterectomy and the evaluation and treatment of endometriosis. However, limited research and reporting exist regarding its benefit in the treatment of vaginal vault prolapse and urinary incontinence. The specific use of robotics has been more significantly limited in the gynecologic literature. New and evolving treatments, however, have emerged, focusing on robotic sacrocolpopexy for the treatment for posthysterectomy vaginal vault prolapse. This article focuses on the emerging benefit of robotics to female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery for the treatment of vaginal vault prolapse and incontinence. © 2007 Springer Science+Business Media, LLC.
