摘要
The design and optimization of the superconducting dipole magnets for the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), is dominated by the requirement of an extremely uniform field. With the application of the BEM-FEM coupling method, the field problem is decomposed into the calculation of the source vector potential, and the reduced vector potential resulting from iron magnetization. The numerical errors do not influence the dominating contribution from the superconducting coil and the surrounding air region needs not to be meshed. This simplifies the preprocessing and avoids artificial boundary conditions at some “far” boundaries.
