Construction of dual-functional superhydrophobic/photothermal Ni3S2 coating for efficient anti-icing

摘要
Undesirable icing is likely to pose a threat to the running of devices and personal security; hence, numerous studies are focusing on seeking efficient and low-consumption strategies to hinder the ice formation and accumulation. In this work, a black Ni3S2 coating that integrates superhydrophobicity and photothermal conversion property was developed. Owing to the combination of surface nanorods and myristic acid, the nickel surface was endowed with excellent superhydrophobicity to reduce the contact area between water droplets and the surface. This allowed the water droplets to delay freezing; ultimately the freezing time on the superhydrophobic Ni3S2 coating was extended about 20 times compared to that on the nickel substrate. In addition, while exposed to the sunlight, the Ni3S2 coating could harvest sufficient solar energy and facilitate a surface temperature increase up to 77.06 degree celsius. This response to sunlight was repeatable, and the generated heat was conducive to reducing the ice melting time. This work is expected to provide a reliable idea for designing and fabricating multifunctional coatings for efficient anti-icing application.
