Genetic testing and insurance: When is discrimination justified?

This paper will be of interest to ethics committees as well as to a general audience. The potential for discrimination on the basis of genetic test results is an issue to be considered by ethics committees when genetic testing is part of research. As well as the possibility of genetic information being used to discriminate against individuals unfairly, genetic discrimination may be a threat to research itself; it could deter others from volunteering.
