With production in the Pacific Northwest at a virtual standstill, questions arose about the cause of the crisis as well as the future of the energy-intensive aluminum industry in the United States. To address such questions, Energy Issues in the Aluminum Industry, has been organized for the 2002 TMS Annual Meeting in Seattle. Each of the representatives from producers of both aluminum and electricity interpreted the economics of the situation for the attendees.
