The Impact of Cr2O3 on the Mechanical, Physical, and Radiation Shielding Characteristics of Na2B4O7–CaO–SiO2 Glasses

The rapid-quenching route was used to prepare Na2B4O7–CaO–SiO2 glass formulations with various Cr2O3 concentrations. XRD analyses were used to determine the amorphous states of glasses. With the addition of Cr2O3, the glass density increased while molar volume reduces. The elastic moduli and velocities have been discovered to be affected by Cr2O3 concentration. A theoretical model of the prepared glasses’ gamma-ray shielding ability has also been developed. With increasing photon energy, the mass attenuation coefficient values were found to reduce. As a result, G 5 glass provides more shielding than other glasses. Incorporating Cr2O3 into the investigated glass compositions has a significant influence on their mechanical and gamma shielding features, according to the findings of this study. In the future, this research could be used to improve mechanical efficiency and reduce radiation’s harmful effects on organisms.
