摘要
Lamotrigine (Lamictal®), a well-established anticonvulsant agent, has demonstrated greater efficacy than placebo in delaying time to intervention for a new mood episode when used as maintenance monotherapy in adult patients with bipolar I disorder The benefits of lamotrigine are irrespective of the polarity of the most recent mood episode. Lamotrigine appears to be an effective alternative to lithium. It addresses an area of unmet need in bipolar I disorder by predominantly preventing depressive episodes, whereas lithium and other alternatives act more against manic symptomatology. Lamotrigine is generally well tolerated with a similar adverse event profile to placebo. © 2004 Adis Data Information BV. All rights reserved.
