Dynamic response and safety criterion of surrounding rock of a circular tunnel subjected to cylindrical P-waves

The blasting stress wave induced by blasting excavation may cause adverse effects on adjacent tunnel. In order to ensure the safety and stability of the adjacent tunnels, it is critical to study their dynamic response. In this paper, the analytical solutions for the vibration velocities and stresses response of surrounding rock of a circular tunnel subjected to cylindrical P-waves were derived based on the wave function expansion method. Combined with a specific engineering case, the stresses and vibration velocities’ distributions of the circular tunnel under cylindrical P-wave with different frequency and different r0 (distance between the wave source and the circular tunnel) were analyzed. The safety vibration velocities were also proposed to ensure the safety of the circular tunnel under cylindrical P-wave.
