Using Simulation Methods to Study Pressure Losses in a Water Supply System for Irrigation

The hydraulic resistance and pressure loss in a water supply system for irrigation is calculated using the Darcy – Weisbach and Hazen – Williams equations. In the hydraulic calculations, the WaterCAD V8i simulation model is used for four pipe materials (ductile iron, glassfiber-reinforced plastic (GRP), concrete, plastic) and different flow rates and pipe diameters. The pressure losses are estimated for pipe diameters of 800 to 1200 mm at a flow rate of 1.16 m3/sec and pipe diameter of 1600 to 2000 mm at a flow rate of 4.63 m3/sec. The correlation of the pressure loss values obtained using the Darcy – Weisbach and Hazen – Williams equations is analyzed using IBM SPSS Statistics. The correlation coefficient is equal to 0.991, 0.990, 1.00, and 1.00 for ductile iron, GRP, concrete, and plastic, respectively. This relationship is very useful for interconversion of the pressure loss values obtained with these equations. © 2023, Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature.
