摘要
Obstructive sleep apnoea is both a risk factor for stroke, and worsens or develops de novo after stroke making it the most common breathing-disorder in stroke patients. Its presence is associated with higher mortality and worse functional outcome. In this paper, sleep-disordered breathing is examined and sleep apnoea is defined. The relationships between obstructive sleep apnoea and stroke, including risk factors, recognition and consequences, are then discussed. Finally, strategies to treat stroke-associated sleep apnoea are reviewed.
