摘要
The relative indeterminacy of public space has led to two rather different lines of research. One pertains to the sociology of culture, with rather general studies of a broad scope that cover lengthy historical periods and call for an analysis of urbanity in the Western world. The other line of research includes the extremely detailed studies of human conduct in specific urban spatial settings. This paper takes a different approach: public space is described based on the notion of urban landscapes, which are expressions of economic, demographic and technological developments.
