Software metrics researchers usually find it difficult to obtain access to source code (or design models) and outcome data from commercial organizations. One way of doing this is to analyze Open Source Software (OSS). In order to effectively use OSS, one must first consider some ethical issues, namely informed consent and minimization of harm and confidentiality.
