Abstract: The results are presented from experimental studies of the mechanism behind the emission of prompt fission neutrons. Angular and energy distributions of prompt neutrons emitted in the thermal-neutron induced fission of 233 U, 235 U, and 239 Pu and the spontaneous fission of 252 Cf are analyzed using the model of neutron emission from fully accelerated fragments. The yield of scission neutrons and the anisotropy of prompt neutron emission are estimated in the fission fragment center-of-mass system. © 2018, Allerton Press, Inc.
