摘要
The behaviour of the Atlantic meridional overturning circulation (AMOC) during the last glacial maximum about 21,000 years ago remains uncertain, with different lines of evidence arguing for either no change or a sharp reduction. César Negre and colleagues now present an analysis of flow-sensitive protactinium and thorium isotopes from the North and South Atlantic and show that the previously contradictory results can be integrated in a new framework, supporting a reversal of the Atlantic meridional overturning circulation at the last glacial maximum.
