摘要
This paper presents the development of an low-cost smart assistive device for the visually impaired, which assists in their mobility. The major aim of the system is to assist a user in typical scenarios like home, workplace, parks, etc. or any areas with less crowd. The proposed system makes use of low-cost sensors to detect obstacles and alert the user in real-time. The alert notifications are handled using the pushover application programming interface. Further, to assist a user in times of emergency, a global positioning system (GPS) module is integrated with the assistive system that facilitates a user to request for support by sending alerts. The integrated system sends location information to a set of pre-configured contacts that can further assist the user. The working of the proposed system is validated through different use-case scenarios and is shown to provide accurate results.
