Elastic properties of Nd3+-ion-doped LaSc3(BO3)4 single crystals

Brillouin light scattering was used to evaluate a whole set of elastic constants for a Nd:LaSC3(BO3)(4) single crystal doped with 15 at.% of Nd3+ ions c(11) = 241; c(12) = 158, c(13) = 89, c(15) = 26, c(22) = 296, c(23) = 119, c(25) = -29, c(33) = 188 c(35) = 0.7 c(44) = 51; c(46) = -29, c(55) = 52, and c(66) = 100 GPa. The elastic properties indicate that the structure is monoclinic as measured by X-ray measurement, but has some trigonal symmetry. We also evaluated the biaxial refractive indices n(y) = 1.825 and n(z) = 1.752 at a wavelength of 514.5 nm with n(x) fixed at 1.819.
