Liquid/two-phasenapor alternating flow during boiling in microchannels at high heat flux

An experiment has been conducted to study flow boiling heat transfer of water in horizontal silicon microchannes heated from below. Depending on the amounts of heat flux and mass flux, it is found that various modes of boiling instability occur after the incipient boiling. At sufficiently high heat flux and low mass flux, an unsteady Liquid/Two-phase/Vapor Alternating Flow (LTVAF) appears in the microchannels. A preliminary report of this interesting phenomenon is described in this paper. (C) 2003 Elsevier Science Ltd.
