Soil thermal contraction in NW Europe related to the dynamics of the weichselian ice sheet

摘要：
The study of ice wedge polygons in Europe and of their diagenesis indicates their frequent occurrence through the last Glacial alternating with loessic sedimentation. They are associated with continuous ice-poor permafrost. Their development is not correlated with orbital forcing, but more probably to polar winds related with the cyclic thickening of ice sheets; their degradation seems correlated with their thinning, synchronous with the Heinrich events in the northern Atlantic.
