Diffuse phase transition and relaxor behavior in (Pb, La)TiO3 ceramics

(Pb1-xLax)Ti1-x/4O3 (PLTx) ceramics of perovskite type were prepared by the sol-gel process, and their structural and dielectric properties investigated. The obtained compounds crystallize, under heat treatment, at relatively low temperatures and no secondary phases have been observed on the corresponding XRD spectra. Annealing temperature (T-a) and its duration (t(a)) and La-doping appear to influence their structural and dielectric characteristics; in particular a very low temperature of ferroelectric to paraelectric transition is recorded. Results also show that these PLTx ceramics are ferroelectric relaxors and the observed relaxor behavior is expressed in terms of the Vogel-Fulcher relationship. (C) 2004 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co.
