What part did objects of worship have to play in the recreation of an Algerian Marian sanctuary in France? Our purpose here is to try and understand how in a population displaced from Algeria to France, including people of Spanish origin, such objects could provide a means of (re)constructing a history and a space that were considered lost. Like a material trace of the past in the present, they effectively represent a way of reliving social ties far from Algeria.
