Fast living cationic polymerization accelerated by SnCl4•I.: New base-stabilized living system for various vinyl ethers with SnCl4/EtAlCl2

摘要
Fast living cationic polymerization of vinyl ethers with SnCl4 combined with EtAlCl2 in the presence of an ester as an added base was reported. An advantage of polymerization with this initiating system is that it uses a combination of two older, well-known Lewis acid. An added advantage is that a high polymerization rate was achieved, regardless of the pendant substituent. In fact, the polymerization rate for O- and N-containing monomers was shown to be 103-105 times larger than the rates with the conventional initiating systems.
