摘要:
A portion of a tailings impoundment may need to be removed with the expansion of an open-pit mine in northeastern Nevada. The tailings are saturated and consist of fine silty soil. During the removal of the tailings, they would have no support structure and vibrations induced by blasting in the pit could lead to slope failures. Twenty-six blasts were monitored on the pit highwall and on the tailings impoundment using three seismographs. Blast pattern parameters were analyzed to determine the consistency of the blasting. Linear regression analysis was performed to obtain a model relating vibration levels, distance from the blast to the tailings and the maximum charge weight per delay. Therefore, knowing the maximum vibrations that the tailings can withstand and the distance between the blast and the tailings, the maximum charge per delay can be determined and the blast designs can be adjusted accordingly.
