摘要
In the present study, convenient methods for the synthesis of new ethoxyphthalimidobenzimidazoles are elaborated. A novel-pyrimido[4,5-e]pyrimidin-dione (5) and a series of pyrimido[4,5-e]pyrimidin-diones (8a-e) have been designed and synthesized starting from 1-(1H-benzimidazol-2-yl)guanidine (2). The structures of all newly constructed derivatives were corroborated by analytical and spectral data (FT-IR, H-1 NMR and Mass) and chemical tests. Subsequently, compounds were subjected to their in vitro antimicrobial activity against a panel of pathogenic strains of bacteria and fungi. Some of the compounds were found to be equipotent or more potent than the reference drugs.
