Derivatives of 4H-pyran-4-one with the atom of sulfur in the side chain

Presented study investigates the 5-hydroxy-2-(alkyl/arylthiomethyl)-4H-pyran-4-ones preparation as well as their oxidation to appropriate sulfones. 5-Substituted 2-arylsulfomethyl-4H-pyran-4-ones were also prepared by the reaction of chloro- or bromokojic acid with the sodium salts of arylsulfonic acids. Thiocyanato, mesyl, and tosyl derivatives of kojic acid were prepared as well. The structures of the prepared derivatives of 4H-pyran-4-ones were confirmed, by IR, H-1 NMR, and mass spectral data. Their antimicrobial activity was determined as well.
