AC losses in multifilamentary BiSrCaCuO-2223/Ag tapes studied by transport and magnetic measurements

The possibility to relate AC losses determined by transport and magnetic measurement was studied analyzing the experimental data of two multifilamentary BiSrCaCuO-2223/Ag tapes that proved absence of bridging between filaments. In magnetic measurements, the AC field was directed perpendicularly to the tape wide side and the model of a strip was used in the analysis. We noticed that, in the tape carrying a transport AC current, a nonuniform distribution of current among individual filaments appears. In contrary, the results of magnetic measurements were explained only if we supposed an independent response of individual filaments. This difference in current distribution could explain the commonly observed discrepancy between AC transport and magnetic loss measurements.
