Application of PMU and SCADA data for estimation of source of forced oscillation

摘要
With the rolling out of Synchrophasor technology in real time grid operation in India, Grid operator could capture Low Frequency Oscillation (LFO) in Indian grid on many occasions, which were so long remained undetected before installing PMU. Though, system operator can reach up to the vicinity of source, it is challenging to identify the exact source of oscillation after its detection, due to not having PMU installed in each nodes of power system. Since SCADA system is monitoring each node of the network with sampling rate of 5 to 10 seconds, SCADA data may be utilized to identify the source of oscillation. As the measurements from SCADA are large in number, statistical approach is required for analyzing available SCADA data to estimate the source of Low Frequency Oscillation. This paper shares experience on application of Pattern Mining Algorithm (PMA) and Maximal Variance Ratio Algorithm (MVRA) for detection of source of forced oscillation events using SCADA data in Eastern Region of Indian power system.
