In order to improve embryogenesis ability and regeneration capacity of wheat calli obtained from varieties characterized by low aptitude to in vitro culture, media with various concentrations of BAP, in presence and in absence of ANA was tested. To assess the eventual improvement of these media, five parameters were considered: rate of callogenesis, rate of germination, percentage of embryogenic calli, percentage of regeneration and mean number of regenerated plantlets/callus (MNRP). The results show that the add of BAP at low concentrations (1 muM) combined with ANA (5 muM), decrease the zygotic germination rate and improve the rates of embryogenic calli, of regeneration and the average number of regenerated plantlets/callus. An interaction between genotypes and the composition of culture media has been also recorded: the improvement is more important in the case of the varieties considered as recalcitrant (Jouda and Saada), in comparison with Potam and Marchouch.
