Effect of Thermal Barrier Coatings on the High-Temperature Strength of Nickel Alloys

摘要
The influence of thermal barrier coatings based on nickel aluminides on the long-term strength and creep characteristics of nickel superalloys is considered. The increase in the fatigue life of coated alloy specimens at high temperatures under high-temperature oxidation conditions is shown to be primarily due to the protection of the surface layer of the metal from chemical destruction during gas corrosion. The decrease in the fatigue life of the uncoated specimens is due to the oxidation of the alloy elements, which becomes more intense with the test time. The complex coatings Ni-Cr-Al-Y, Cr-Al-Ti-Hf, and Ni-Al-Hf-Y under study are found to exert a positive effect on the creep characteristics of high-temperature alloys ZhS6U, VZhL12U, ZhS16, and ZhS30M.
