Utilization of Internet computing as a tool for engineering design

Software packages are often used in complex problems related to engineering design. If the problem under consideration involves several parameters that should be considered simultaneously, the need for analytical or numerical tools grows. In general software packages used in engineering design are produced to be sold, or to be licensed for a certain period of time for a fee. Some engineering design problems, such as the design of a concrete mix, require simpler calculations. Such design process can be programmed on an Internet-based platform where it can be made freely available to the engineering community worldwide. This paper details the process of utilizing the JavaScript programming language to structure a website that can be used to design concrete mixtures. The site is developed in a way that data entry and calculation of results are matters of a few clicks and strokes.
