Making use of a variational approach to Kohn-Luttinger superconductivity, we study the superconducting state of two coupled CuO2 planes. The bilayer is described in terms of a t-t(') Hubbard model with weak interplane hopping. For parameters relevant to overdoped cuprates, we find a substantial increase of the mean field transition temperature T-c, when compared with the single layer model. This increase is driven by the enhanced density of states of the bilayer.
