A C2H2 frequency-stabilized erbium-doped fiber laser and its application to coherent communication

摘要
We describe a frequency-stabilized, polarization-maintained erbium fiber ring laser and its application to coherent communication. The laser frequency is stabilized by using an acetylene (C2H2) absorption line and the frequency stability reached as high as 1.3 x 10(-11) for an integration time of 1 s. The output beam of this frequency-stabilized laser has no frequency modulation with a narrow linewidth of 4 kHz. Using this coherent laser and an optical phase-locked-loop (OPLL) technique, we succeeded in a 20 Msymbol/s coherent quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) transmission over 525 km.
