摘要
One of the important effects occurring during surface treatments is the development of certain states of residual stresses that are localized in the surface layers and affect the useful properties of the treated parts, such as the corrosion resistance and resistance to frictional wear of the layers. The paper presents the results of metallographical examinations, determination of the residual stresses state and measurements of the corrosion and frictional wear resistance of the surface layers produced on the Ti-1Al-1Mn titanium alloy by isothermal and cyclic nitriding under glow discharge conditions. These techniques permit controlling the microstructure and thickness of the layers as well as the state of residual stresses induced in them, i.e, the parameters which essentially affect their performance properties.
