The effect of dissolved substances on the adsorption of colloidal extractives to fines in mechanical pulp

摘要
Model colloidal extractives, dissolved substances and fines from mechanical pulp and salt (NaCl) was mixed and the adsorption of the colloidal extractives was measured. The results show that colloidal extractives are adsorbed to fines at low pH values or high salt concentrations, and that flake-like fines and ray cells adsorb the colloidal extractives more effectively than the fibrillar fines. The effect of dissolved substances has been measured and discussed. The surface composition of the fines has also been measured in order to explain the differences in adsorption ability.
