Companies of all sizes have recognised their role in society and the real benefits of a proactive approach to Corporate Social Responsibility. Even though the CSR concept has been largely associated with multinational companies, the SMEs have a high potential for involving in socially responsible activities. The aim of this paper is to look into the level of awareness and perception of SMEs regarding their involvement in socially responsible activities in Arges county, Romania. The paper draws on a preliminary qualitative research in Arges county, Romania, regarding the awareness level of the Romanian SMEs on social responsibility and methods to involve in socially responsible activities. Some preliminary results emphasised that the analysed firms are socially involved but they are not truly aware of doing this, their employees perceive responsible initiatives towards the internal working environment and the safety of the job is greater than a salary increase.
