摘要：
The artichoke is a traditional crop of the province of Murcia. The most commonly used cultivar is Blanca de Tudela (BT) obtained by vegetative reproduction. It is well adapted to the climatic conditions of the Region and shows an acceptable degree of earliness, maintaining its production during winter. In recent years, however, new cultivars obtained from seed have been gaining in popularity since they present good adaptation for industrial use and produce a high yield of artichokes for fresh consumption. The aim of this work is to compare the economic viability of both types of cultivation based on the total cost of production and net profit margin. The data used in this study have been obtained from several commercial farms in the Campo de Cartagena area, and take into consideration the opinions of experts and technicians from agrarian cooperatives and Agricultural Extension Offices. All data were obtained from several Regional Research Centres. The results show that the economic viability of artichoke cultivation as regards both types of cultivation depends on the monthly percentage of the artichoke yield destined for industrial use or fresh consumption.
