Li intercalation in zirconium dioxide films

Electronic and Li ionic conduction in sputtered transparent ZrO2 thin films intercalated with Li ions, have been studied using impedance spectroscopy, isothermal transient ionic current and galvanostatic intermittent titration measurements. The ZrO2 was found to be a mixed electronic and ionic conductor with an electron conductivity two orders of magnitude higher than the Li ion conductivity at low ion concentrations. A lattice gas model was used to study the interactions between the intercalated Li ions. The behavior of the Li chemical diffusion coefficient indicated that the net interaction between the intercalated Li ions is attractive.
