Effect of magnetic field applied during laser-arc hybrid welding in improving the pitting resistance of the welded zone in austenitic stainless steel

摘要
Pitting corrosion resistance of austenitic stainless steel welded zone is improved with an external magnetic field applied during laser-arc hybrid welding. Analysis of the microstructure indicates that welding with an external magnetic field homogenizes distribution of delta-ferrite in austenite matrix by weakening delta-ferrite texture intensity and promoting growth of uniform skeletal morphology. The improved pitting corrosion resistance is characterized by a higher pitting potential with smaller passivation current density, which is attributed to the uniform Cr diffusion resulting from homogeneous distribution of delta-ferrite.
